Okra is one of the oldest cultivated vegetables in the world. The ancient Egyptians grew it along the banks of the Nile more than 3000 years ago. India is one of the biggest producers. Although it is still not widely known in Europe, this vegetable actually has a lot to offer.
In terms of flavour, okra is mild, yet somewhat sour and spicy. It is one of the most commonly used vegetables in Thai cuisine. For instance, it is used in green curry.
